Description of Neochlorella semenenkoi gen. et. sp. nov. (Chlorophyta, Trebouxiophyceae), a Novel Chlorella-like Alga with High Biotechnological Potential

Despite many publications about Chlorella-like algae, their reliable and accurate identification is still difficult due to simplicity high phenotypic plasticity. The molecular approach has revolutionized our understanding of the diversity ’small green balls’, a natural classification this group currently being developed. This work aimed at providing detailed study phylogenetic position, morphology, ultrastructure, physiology biotechnologically remarkable strain IPPAS C-1210. Based on SSU–ITS1–5.8S–ITS2 phylogeny, genetic distances, presence compensatory base changes (CBCs) in ITS1 conserved regions ITS2 secondary structures, we describe new genus, Neochlorella, with C-1210 as authentic type species, N. semenenkoi gen. sp. nov. In addition, justify reassignment C. thermophila ITBB HTA 1–65 into comb. distinctive ultrastructural physiological traits species are discussed.
